Logos are more than just a picture or concept - they tell stories. The Valley Outdoors logo isn’t just a design; it’s a symbol of how we move through nature with anticipation, connection, and care.Â
I am sharing something close to my heart - the meaning behind our Valley Outdoors logo. For us, our logo isn’t just a graphic to put on shirts or a website. It’s a reminder to slow down, look ahead, and step into nature with intention.
Our logo is about wayfinding. Like a sign on the road that makes you pause and prepare, it encourages you to anticipate what’s ahead - whether that’s paddling through a gorge, hiking into the Australian bushland, or setting up camp under the stars.
The roots of our Valley Outdoors Logo come from Paddle and Portage Canoes, our sister company. The original icon was a paddler carrying a canoe on their shoulders - a tradition known as portaging. For Travis and I, this symbol is powerful. To portage a canoe is to carry your own vessel, to move with ease and grace through the landscape, and to access wild places with a sense of freedom and independence.
Carrying (and paddling) your own canoe means you’re self-reliant. It’s also about elegance - being able to bring something as simple and beautiful as a lightweight canoe into the wilderness, without struggle, but with dignity and even a touch of luxury. That image still inspires us every day.Â

At the heart of the Valley Outdoors logo sits the central diamond - our Paddle & Portage Canoes icon. This symbol of a paddler carrying their canoe represents our roots and our way of life: the art of portaging. It’s about moving lightly through the landscape, with strength, grace, and freedom.
From that centre, the remaining diamonds branch outwards, showing how Valley Outdoors has grown from this foundation. Each diamond reflects a part of what we now offer:
The central diamond keeps us anchored in our beginnings, while the surrounding diamonds show the branching out and growth of Valley Outdoors - a visual reminder that everything we do stems from the same core philosophy: slow down, look ahead, and find your way into nature together.
Valley Outdoors is more than an outdoor business. We are a team of experienced professionals who live and work in Gangagruwan, Kangaroo Valley. We create accessible, inclusive adventures for families, friends, and groups of up to 60 people.
Our experiences range from a few hours to a few days, and they take place across the Southern Highlands, South Coast, and beyond. Whether it’s paddling dramatic gorges, abseiling sandstone cliffs, or camping in the bush, our guides help people connect with the natural world - and with each other.
The logo captures that vision. It says: slow down, look ahead, this way.
